About Us
Culture and Norms
1. Values
We are a deliberately casual-competitive Premodern community.
We value:
Inclusion and accessibility
Good faith engagement
Respect for players and organizers
Charity-based events and prizing
Community focus
Generosity
Not every Magic space operates the same way. Our goal is to steward the culture we’ve intentionally built — not to become all things to all players.
Communication
1. Be Respectful
There are many actual friendships in this group. You do not have to be friends with everyone, but you do have to respect everyone.
We have a no-tolerance policy for bigoted comments, including racism, sexism, transphobia, bullying, and other harassment. Violations will be handled by TOs/moderators and may result in as much as a tournament disqualification and/or a permanent ban from the discord.
Disrespect and personal attacks in the discord may be redirected or moderated, including channel timeouts, user timeouts, kicks, and bans. Structured feedback threads may be provided when appropriate.
2. Personal vs. Community Issues
We distinguish between:
Personal concerns involving an individual’s conduct or choices
Community representation or structural concerns
Personal concerns should generally be raised directly with the individual or a TO first.
Community representation or structural concerns are appropriate to discuss publicly in the discord, provided the discussion remains respectful and focused on community rather than personal character.
3. Policy Clarification
Where policy is unclear, please directly message a TO to clarify.
Argumentative posting about policy in general channels may be redirected or moderated, including channel timeouts, user timeouts, kicks, and bans.
Tournaments
1. “DBAD” REL
Except where specified, tournaments follow the Magic Tournament Rules.
Rules enforcement level for all events is “Don’t Be A Dick”.
On the one hand, generosity is one of our core values. On the other hand, generosity cannot be enforced.
We all optimize our play experience to win. In this community, we also strive to make our opponents comfortable, welcomed, ready to have fun, and to do their best. It’s just a game.
For example, culturally, we allow takebacks, so our opponents have forgiving (and still fair) opportunities to put forward their best game. But it’s not a rule, and not allowing a takeback doesn’t make you a dick.
2. Proxies
Suitable proxies and gold-bordered WCD cards are permitted at all events. Proxies should ideally be printed in color and recognizable from across the table. Suitability of proxies at events is subject to the discretion of the TO.
3. Phone Usage During Matches
Consulting notes during a match is against the rules. Accordingly, phone usage is acceptable only for:
Any urgent personal matters obviously
Scryfall searches which you do publicly with your opponent
Scryfall searches which you do privately with the judge
Anything else approved by a TO/judge
Everything else is not ok. Violations may result in a game loss.
4. Format
Unless otherwise specified, the format of all events is Premodern. Obviously!
